I’m sharing this today out of a deep sense of hurt and disappointment over what I witnessed at the recent BJP conference, where [Mithun Chakraborty] made remarks that felt not only insensitive but also divisive. To see this unfold in the presence of high-ranking officials, including [Amit Shah, the Indian Prime Minister, and other prominent leaders], was profoundly disheartening.
For years, I’ve admired [Chakraborty] as a talented actor and cultural icon. But witnessing his behavior and choice of words at this conference made me question what values he truly represents. His remarks didn’t just feel out of touch; they felt disrespectful to the diverse communities that make up our society. Many of us look to public figures, especially in such high-profile settings, to speak with empathy, understanding, and unity. Instead, [Chakraborty’s] words came across as harmful and dismissive, as if he failed to recognize the weight they carry.
What pains me even more is the silence and inaction from the officials present. For leaders who hold such significant roles in shaping our nation’s future, standing by while divisive language is used signals a tolerance of behavior that alienates and marginalizes. In a world as interconnected and diverse as ours, every word matters, especially those spoken on public stages. Remaining silent in these moments feels like a quiet endorsement of values that go against inclusivity and respect.
I believe that public figures and leaders, especially those with immense influence, have a responsibility to foster unity, not division. It’s disappointing to see that, in a setting where our leaders could have advocated for compassion and unity, divisive remarks went unchecked. This isn’t the example we need or deserve, and it doesn’t reflect the inclusive, respectful society we strive to build.
I am sharing this post in the hope that [Chakraborty] and those who were present at the conference will see the impact of their words and actions. Acknowledgment and accountability are essential for real change, and I hope they will recognize how their choices affect countless individuals, including people who have admired them for years. We need our leaders and public figures to be voices for all, not just a select few.
Moving forward, I would love to see [Chakraborty] and others use their influence to build bridges instead of walls. We’re all capable of reflection and growth, and I hope that they take this opportunity to demonstrate the values of inclusivity, kindness, and respect.
Let’s continue to speak up and demand accountability—not out of hostility, but out of a desire to create a society where everyone feels valued and accepted
This is the best comment I have read on these kinds of shameful speeches by some reckless political figures and other leaders in our societies.
I watched Mithun’s movies while growing up in Nigeria, but this singular action from him has completely changed my view and perception of him, as well as the culture he represents. This is quite disgraceful.
I’m a big fan of mithun. Politics is a dirty game. He’s an actor most his fans from film industry and he should stay out of Politics @Mario-ur8ti
